Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) alumni Michael Reed, DC and Amor Adams, DC have been selected by the US Olympic Committee (USOC) to serve on the 62-member medical staff that will support US athletes in Beijing, China at the 2008 Olympic Games. The competitions will take place August 8 – 24 of this year. The medical team is a multi-disciplinary group of medical doctors, certified athletic trainers, doctors of chiropractic, and massage therapists.
Both Adams and Reed will be assigned to treat and coordinate care for athletes at the USOC High Performance Training Center (HPTC) at Beijing Normal University.
Reed, who was recently named as Medical Director of the Performance Services Division, at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO talks about the opportunity, “The USOC is a great organization to work for. Everyone is dedicated and working hard for the athletes and Olympic team members.”
Reed is a December 1981 graduate of LACC. He has served as a faculty member in the Post-Graduate Division for a number of years and developed the Sports Medicine Residency program at SCU, where he served as its first Director. He is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), a Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians (DABCSP), and earned the Masters of Applied Science in Musculoskeletal Management degree awarded by SCU in conjunction with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
Adams is a December 1987 graduate of LACC who practices in Oakland, CA. She is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. In her practice she treats elite collegiate and professional athletes and is the Medical Director of the Oakland Athletic League, a Division I high school section. She completed an internship at the US Olympic Training Center in 2002. She was selected as the Sports Chiropractor of the Year in 1999 by the American College of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. In 2007 she was selected by the USOC as the sole sports chiropractor for the World University Games in Thailand.
