Emerging Technology Bootcamp

Emerging Tech Bootcamp

The Summer 2023 Emerging Technology Bootcamp ran from June 22 through August 31. 14 students from all class levels and backgrounds were accepted into the program from 119 applicants. Each qualified student was interviewed and vetted prior to being accepted into the program.

Each team was comprised of 7 students who worked together on solving a business problem provided to them by their coach from Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). During the 10-week period, the industry coaches shared their knowledge about how to understand the industry problem, converge into a single solution, prototype the solution, validate it and finally refine the final solution and the pitch. The teams are self-managed in terms of roles and responsibilities. In between the weekly sessions, the students communicate with their coaches via Slack, a well-known industry tool used commonly to facilitate projects.

Throughout the program, the students connect with industry leaders, presenters, subject matter experts who offer the students insights into 21st Century skills and career planning covering the areas of digital, business, and interpersonal skills. Those professionals' backgrounds have spun the private sector, government entities, nonprofits as well as higher education institutions. Example institutions and companies who have participated in the past are UCLA, AWS, Slalom, County of Los Angeles, JPL and more.
