This pathway provides students with the opportunity to explore programs covering various aspects of human behavior, cognition, emotion, psychology, and research methods. Social sciences programs allow you to delve into the examination of social structures, institutions, and processes, addressing critical issues such as inequality, diversity, globalization, and social change.

Nicki (Nair) Backlar is a faculty member in the Child Development Department at Los Angeles City College. Professor Backlar began her academic journey at Santa Monica College before earning both her BA and MA in Human Development from Pacific Oaks College. She has extensive experience teaching in diverse educational settings, including preschools, parent cooperative programs, public school before- and after-care, and charter schools for kindergarten through first grade. She also provides Child Development State Permit advisement and is certified in Breathe for Change, which integrates yoga and social-emotional learning into teaching. David Sedghi is a faculty member in the Department of Psychology and Human Services at Los Angeles City College where he serves as chair of the department. His work centers on the study and practice of psychology and human services, with a focus on preparing students to engage thoughtfully with the challenges and opportunities of supporting individuals and communities. Lauren Hofschneider is a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Los Angeles City College. Her academic and teaching interests include health psychology, research methods, and social psychology. She emphasizes both scientific rigor and practical application, encouraging students to explore how psychological principles can improve individual well-being and address broader social issues.
