All LACC FKCE classes are currently being held online via the Zoom platform. All classes qualify for B, W rate, SCI and RFA renewal hours. We will also be offering Special Care Increment (SCI) Pre-Service Certification classes.

Welcome to the Foster and Kinship Care Education Program at Los Angeles City College

We provide quality education and support opportunities for caregivers. Through trainings, caregivers learn how to meet the educational, emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children and youth.

We offer continuous support for our Resource Parents (foster, kinship, and adoptive) through trainings in areas such as:

  • Parenting skills: child development, behavior management, grief and loss, cultural diversity, self-esteem, safety issues, CPR and first aid
  • Permanency planning: reunification, emancipation, guardianship, adoption, working with birth parents, visitations
  • Working with the system: roles, responsibilities, and rights of resource parents; accessing community resources
  • Specialized areas: prevention of teen pregnancy, prenatal drug and alcohol exposure, child abuse, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, substance abuse issues, attachment issues

    Ofrecemos apoyo continuo para nuestros Padres de Recursos (Crianza, Parientes, y Adoptivos) a través de varios talleres y clases en áreas como:

  • Habilidades para Padres (Desarrollo de los niños, Manejo de comportamientos, Perdida y Duelo, Diversidad Cultural, Autoestima, Temas de Seguridad, CPR y Primeros Auxilios)
  • Plan de Permanencia (Reunificación, Emancipación, Guardian Legal, Adopción, Trabajando con los Padres Biológicos, Visitas)
  • Áreas Especializadas (Educación superior, Prevención de embarazo en adolescentes, temas de drogas y alcohol prenatal, abuso de infantil, discapacidades físicas, discapacidades de aprendizaje, temas de abuso de sustancias, temas de apego, etc.)

  • Trabajando con el Sistema (Roles, Responsabilidades y Derechos de los Padres de Recurso, Acceso a servicios en la comunidad)

The Foster and Kinship Care Education Program provides quality education and support opportunities for caregivers of children and youth in out-of-home care so that these providers may meet the educational, emotional, behavioral and developmental needs of children and youth.

Nuestra Misión

El Programa para Padres de Crianza y Parientes que Cuidan de Otro Pariente provee educación de calidad y oportunidades de apoyo para personas que cuidan de niños y jóvenes que viven fuera de su hogar. Así estos padres de crianza y parientes pueden ayudar con las necesidades educacionales, emocionales, de comportamiento, y desarrollo de los niños y jóvenes.
