Hello everyone! 😊 I’m excited to connect with you—whether in class, lab, or mentoring spaces. My path has woven through the worlds of biology, health sciences, and education. I’ve worked as a scientist, clinician, researcher, teacher, and peer counselor, but at my core, I’m always a student. The ups and downs of my academic and professional journey have shaped my approach to teaching and supporting others.

In my courses, I focus on helping you think like a biologist and a health professional. You’ll learn how to build concept maps, write strong scientific summaries, assess the quality of health research, and practice multiple active learning strategies. We also explore metacognition—learning how we learn—and how to give and receive feedback with empathy and clarity.

Whether you're new to the life sciences or preparing for a health career, I’m here to support your growth. Feel free to stop by and say hello or join one of my classes!

I was originally trained as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and am licensed by the State of California. Additionally, I received my Ph.D. and two postdoctoral trainings in Tumor Immunology, Gene and Chromatin Regulation and served as faculty at UCLA School of Medicine for 10 years. The theme of my research lab was to develop novel approaches to increase sensitivity of cancers to the immune system.

I have been teaching Anatomy for several years and have found it to be an amazing subject. The course not only helps students to learn more about the intricacies of the human body, but it is an essential course required for many majors. I have also published extensively in the field of cancer research and my goal is to assist all my students to achieve their full potential and be the next generation of healthcare providers. When I am not writing papers or teaching, I spend time gardening and playing/training with my dog. Looking forward to a fun and productive semester!

I have been teaching Microbiology (both Microbiology 01 and 20) full-time at LACC since 2015 and I am happy to be here. My primary goal is to support students in learning deeply, thinking critically, and preparing effectively for their future academic journeys, many of which lead to allied health programs like nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, and more. I am committed to reducing, and whenever possible, removing barriers to learning. At the same time, I want to empower students who put in the effort, helping them build confidence in their ability to tackle any challenges. I won’t give you all the answers, but my hope is that you’ll leave my class equipped with the skills and mindset to succeed in whatever academic or professional path you choose.

Although I wouldn't consider myself outdoorsy, I do enjoy getting outside with my family for activities like biking and hiking. I also try to make time for a good workout, and I never miss a chance to take on a punching bag!

Hi!  I'm happy to meet you. I have spent most of my life in Los Angeles, where I have been teaching General Biology (Biology 3) at LA City College for over 10 years.  It's my favorite class!  I love introducing people to basic biology topics that are also important to their daily lives.  We talk about: biological molecules and how to eat the right ones to stay healthy; genetics and how your genes give you insights into your ancestry and what diseases you might get; and ecology and why fires today are so frequent and so intense.  I focus on making information accessible and easy to understand.  There is something for everyone.
